Local Events in Lefkada, Greece

On the island of Lefkada many local events are held throughout the year. The Carnival events culminate on Sunday of Carnival and it is custom to burn the maypole at the end of the celebration. During the summer months, the celebrations of speech and art are organised, with scientific conferences, exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances and bands from all around the world. Easter is celebrated in a traditional Heptanesian way: litany on Great Saturday with the escort of the band and the breaking of pitchers.

The festival of Saint Trinity takes place in the Monastery of Faneromeni assembling crowd of pilgrims each year. On 6 August the Festival of Saint Donatoy is organised, with the feast of lentil, in Egkloybi, on 11 August,the representation of the traditional marriage of Leykada takes place in Karya, in July and August 'Balaoriteia' are organised in Nydri with speeches, traditional dances and the Barcarole,while festivals take place in many places, as in Saint Sunday (6 July), in Ligia and Vasilika (15 August) in Sivota (23 April and Easter Monday) and elsewhere.
